96 GMC Jimmy no spark

1996 GMC Jimmy 4.3L, auto, 2 WD, 186k miles. Died while my wife was driving it, fuel pump had been sounding bad, so I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter without trouble shooting, big mistake and waste of money. Not the problem. Excellent fuel pressure at intake.
Next replaced crank position sensor, ignition coil, coil driver module, cap, rotor, and distributor (high voltage switch) with cam position sensor. Engine turns over, does not start.
Have sprayed starter fluid in intake, no luck. Ohmed across all fuse in the dash, all are good. Verified 12 volt dc at ignition coil and coil driver module. Verified 12 volt dc through fusible link from battery. Disconnected battery leads and cleaned them.
Connected tester from auto zone, no faults found. Please help me identify the problem. Disconnected a plug wire and connected it to a spark tester, didn't have spark.

Re: 96 GMC Jimmy no spark

My chiltons manual doesn't show a ignition or engine relay.

Rotor does turn while engine is turning over.

No spark coming out of coil either.

Lights, blinkers, etc work.

Rain has set in for the week and my wife doesn't like finding a to and from work so the Jimmy is being towed to dealership tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all the advise.

Re: 96 GMC Jimmy no spark

Jimmy was towed to dealer this morning. They called this evening, it was the VCM, PCM, ECU, whatever you want to call the black box on the passenger fender well is the part that is bad.

The ignition should be good for a while longer with all the new parts.

Make sure that they know that you are not paying for them to guess, and that you want a guarantee that replacing it will fix your problem. The computer is the normally the first thing blamed when someone doesn't know or doesn't have the skills to properly diagnose problems, and the fact of the matter is that they rarely fail.

Re: 96 GMC Jimmy no spark

Got it back today, they said the computer fixed it, and it runs great.

Computer $468.70 minus $200 core charge, so it was $288.70
Labor $179.00.
Misc Shop supplies $12.59.
Tax $23.82.
Total cost $505.01

My wife having her vehicle running again and not having to bum a ride to and from work - priceless!!!

I was able to talk the Dealer down $200 off the first qoute they qouted me for the computer. They are $139 at Oreilly, so $288 plus paying labor was pushing it, but my wife needed her vehicle back and I wasn't 100% positive the computer was bad.
