2000 izuzu rodeo

Okay so my cousins 2000 izuzu randomly died on him on the freeway the other night. He had it towed to my house and from what I can see he has spark and fuel. When turning over the engine its pretty hollow sounding it tries but seems out of time. And whatever this part is in the pictures below blows smoke everytime it turns over.

I'm hoping its not the timing belt. But from the sounds of the engine it may be. O and he had full fluids at the time. He has about 95k and changes oil and just had a tune-up done about 800mi ago.

Re: 2000 izuzu rodeo

Is your cousins Rodeo the 4-cylinder engine??

Doesn't resemble the 3.2L V6 engine =

The silver cover behind the upper radiator hose is the timing belt cover; I'm guessing the pic you posted is the timing belt cover of a 2.2L 4-cylinder engine??

Re: 2000 izuzu rodeo

Looks like a 4 cyl to me. Sounds like the timing belt either slipped or broke. If thats the case it could be big trouble. The 4 cyl isuzu engines are interferance fit which means the pistons can hit the valves if the belt breaks or slips enough. Timing belt should be replaced at 50-60k miles. The smoke might be the belt burning as the crankshaft slips on it.

Re: 2000 izuzu rodeo

yep looked today 4 cylinder he didnt even know. HE was like they put 4 cylinders in trucks?

So yea after looking with more light it is definately timing. Poor guy. I wouldn't even know where to start for this one. Besides towing it to a shop or putting in a whole new engine.

Re: 2000 izuzu rodeo

He said he is going to junk it or part it out he doesn't want to put in a new engine or rebuild the one he has. He already had another car that he drove around for school and such so hes not going to be car less.

So if anyone needs any parts PM me or just post in this thread.

Re: 2000 izuzu rodeo

Must be nice to be able to just afford to junk a car....Obviously it's paid for??

I still couldn't afford to junk any of my cars, we'd be in a world of hurt.
