Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
Does anyone know where I can purchase the black lug nut caps for the 2001 Grand Prix GTP wheels? I'm having a hard time finding them on the Internet. Would the dealer be my only option?
Also, are there other recommenderd caps options or am I limited to the same as the originals? Thanks. |

Try autozone or advanced auto parts. I think they are like $1.50 each.

Re: Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
OK, thanks. I'll try AutoZone b/c I had already visited 2 different Advanced (as well as their website) and had no luck so far. I just replaced my two front wheel bearings (the whole assembly) and lost three of those big lug nut black caps on my test drive, I think I over tightened them and thus stripped them.
Thanks again. |

Re: Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
By adding a small bead of clear silicon weatherstripping sealant on the threads before screwing them on, they dont fall off.
When I bought my car, it was missing 3. Bought 3 at the dealer got hom installed them, two days later, missing another. Bought one more, put it on in the dealership parking lot, when I got home, was missing another. Decided something had to be done. Did the above method to keep them on. Works like a charm. Havnt lost a single one yet.

Re: Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
Another option is to replace the GM lug nuts entirely with aftermarket. IMO the chrome lug nuts look better and no more problems with the flaky plastic covers. Thats what I did in the past until I got my 18" wheels and new tires.

Re: Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
Thanks for the input guys. I tried going to a bunch of Auto Parts stores (Advanced, AutoZone, Napa, Bennett, ...) w/ no luck. I even stopped by a couple of wheels specialized places and still nothing. I finally stoped by the Pontiac dealer on my way home and they wanted $5 for each one of those plastic caps. So, I'm taking the advice given above and replacing all the factory open end lug nuts w/ the closed end chrome ones which I agree will look better.
Thanks again. |

Re: Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
I did the exact same thing with my car and I'm glad I did. I've replaced like ten of those stupid caps. I put chromies on and I'm selling the rest of my caps on ebay right now.

Re: Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
I had my car for about 8 years and have only lost one black cap. I use clear silcone on the inside of the black cap, just a little on the tip on my little finger. Just spin the cap around and put it on the lug nut.

Re: Lug Nut Caps Replacements - '01 Grand Prix
I know many of you are moving on to bigger and better pastures with the chrome lug nuts, but I have had my 1998 since new, rotate my tires myself and have never lost one. What I do is put the plastic caps on as tight as I can with my bare hands, and then tighten an additional 30 degrees with a lug nut wrench. This is just enough so someone can't take them off with their bare hands in a parking lot somewhere, I figure. If you take your car in for new tires, you gotta take 'em off and put them back on at home when they are finished. Can someone include a picture of the polished aluminum 1998 version Grand Prix wheels with the chrome lug nuts installed? I like that idea, but would like to see it first. Thanks.
