Pyroil Engine Cleaner

http://www.valvoline.com/pages/produ...asp?product=29

I am woundering if anyone has used this before. I have a 95' Bird with hydraulic lifters and one is tickin pretty bad since my last oil change. I think what happened is a deposit must of got loose and plugged that valley up. I have also heard sTp makes a good one too.

I am also woundering if this can make things worse. Such as break up a deposit then plugs up a crankshaft clearence or something.
But if this stuff can actualy "melt" it then it might not?

Re: Pyroil Engine Cleaner

Well, me personally, other than carbon build up removers such as GM top end cleaner, I don't use oil additives to that claim to 'clean' as they lube. Your presumption is correct in debris caused to flow in the oiling system and wreak havoc. How do I know?

oh, some 12 years ago, I learned the hard way. I was giving my first Camaro a much needed oil change, and decided to be nice and treat it to CD2 engine "revitalizer". Well, long story short, about a week later, the motor came to violent hault pulling up to the bank drive thru. Not knowing all that much back then, I had the car towed home, and took a look, cylinder 7's piston head was GONE, bye bye sinara see ya later through the block, and what remained of the connecting rod was serverly twisted up. i never broke down the entire motor to see what the bearings looked like to verify it was indeed the additive as the car was concidered a loss due to extreme body rott and not worth the swap.

If I knew now what I did then, regardless of keeping the car or not I would have broken the motor down for confirmation.

A lifter is only going to tap when it has insufficient pressure or it's collapsing (failed) which is not all uncommon with the 3.4's I've deat with.

Also, check your igintion wires, an arcing aprk sounds almost exactly like a failed lifter at times.

Re: Pyroil Engine Cleaner

well heres something i forgot to mention the lifter only ticks when oil pressure is low (hot) see its winter here and when i start it up in the morning you cant hear it (high pressure) but once its warm you can. i think i might just do my next oil change and see how that goes, then if it continues pull the valve covers off this spring.
