Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
Well the guy who had my eclipse before me had an amp and sub kit installed so all I had to do was throw my equipment in.
The only problem is its not getting enough juice. Theres a Stero Shop like 2 miles down the road from me and they were kind enough to just hit it with a multimeter. We quickly found that it was only getting 6 volts to the +12 on the amp. Everything (includeing the remote signal) was good. So we figuered it was a fuse. Today I traced the line (PAIN right in the ass... only 15 degrees out right now) and I have found a little fuse box in the line that has enough room for two fuses. Now, how do I know what fuses to buy? There are no markings on the box ANYWHERE. My guess was to get a 20 amp fuse but there is two slots. Do I get two 20 amp fuses or two 10 amp fuses? Any help would be great. Thanks. |

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
Must be a really small power cable, what gauge is it? 2 20 amp fuses wont be enough. What amp do you have?

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
Oh ok, that amp might...put out 200 watts. But anyways, You are talking about the fuse that goes in the power cable coming from the battery right? If so, a 20 amp fuse is waaay too small. And again, what size wire is it?

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
Yes the fuse box is right after the battery, as for the size of the wire. Its pretty fat. My guess is going to be standard guage for running equipment. I cant tell what anything is... its not marked and the guy I bought it from does not remember. sorry i cant be any more help on that lol.

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
Looks like 10 or 8 guage. Looking at the specs you should be ok with 30's.
Or you may want to get a new amp kit designed to pump power to a 1000w amp and has either a stationary fuse block or a in line tube fuse.

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
80 may be a bit too much for a amp..if you get a surge and the onboard electronics are not designed to handle 80 amps you'll fry your amp. Besides the factory alternator is only like 70 amps.

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
well i took a 20 amp fuse from the AC slot and put it in and nothing happened... My guess is it still needs more juice for the amp right?
The site says: Current Drain at rated output (A): 48 Does that mean I should look for something like 60A? I looked around and most amp wireing kits for over 1000W use 100A fuses. Should I just grab one of those? |

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
Get a whole new wiring kit. Go with a 4 awg wire, and a 60a fuse, you should be fine.
Something like this. It comes with a 100a fuse, but I would buy a 60a and use that instead. http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-PKD4-CAR-...QQcmdZViewItem |

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
I would throw that poo poo mess thats in that car in the trash and get a new power wire kit. Get 4 gauge since thats what that amp is desinged for. As for the fuse size is doesnt matter too much, as long as it isnt some little poo poo. Just get a good power wire kit that comes with the wire, fuse box, and fuse.

Re: Only Getting 6 Volts, Need 12
LOL, man i should have looked at the amp first before babbling on. Ai agree with the previous posts, go with a 4gauge wire kit. A 60a should be more than enough for you. I only mentioned the 80A cause I kept frying the 60s in my other car.
