Exclamation Electrical problem w/94 cherokee sport, HELP!!!

I have a 94 jeep cherokee sport, the problem is that all at once my turning signals wouldn't work, my blower stopped working, the cigarette lighter, my windshield wipers and now my temp gauge all stopped working, at first i thought it was a blown fuse or a blown relay switch, i checked them both under the hood and under my dash and they're all working fine, but then i found out the only half of my fuse panel under my dash is getting power and i can't seem to find where the short is to fix it... can someone please help?

Cool Re: Electrical problem w/94 cherokee sport, HELP!!!

Can you read a wiring diagram and do you have a volt-ohm meter?

Use the diagram and a VOM to trace the wiring.

You do not have short, BTW. That is a often misused term. A short circuit means the wiring circuit is made shorter by touching somewhere and rarely happens in autos. Most likely you have a broken or disconnected circuit.

Re: Electrical problem w/94 cherokee sport, HELP!!!

Check the body and dash grounds. Generally part of the fuse block is "constant on", the remainder runs off the ign switch. If the cig lighter is out, that is generally on the constant side. Just for a quick check run a long wire from the battery neg post and ground your volt meter with it. Check for voltage at the center contact of the lighter (careful not to touch sides) If you get a 12v reading you can bet the ground is gone. You can add a good ground by simply running a decent gauge wire from the battery to the dash. When I do this, I usually strip some insulation off the wire and re-ground the firewall and fenders along the way, by looping the exposed sections under a self tapping screw. A squirt of undercoat over the screws will keep them clean.(i believe it's called bonding when it's done in a boat). Hope this helps!

Sweet! We've got ourselves anther electrical guru!

Hijacked!
So, with my heated side mirrors, are the little symbols supposed to illuminate at all or are the little defrost symbols just to indicate that they are of the heated 4-wires at the harness flavor?? We, in central VA, haven't had enough of a cold snap for me to know if they even work... Thanks!

I don't think the symbols are supposed to light up just there to show that it's a defrost mirror, I believe that they are acid etched into the glass surface.

Guru..... I wish, wiring stuff is easy if you dont confuse yourself. HOWEVER, When I have a problem, it's usually one nobody has ever encountered before. Like the intermittent wierd start/run miss that I get in my 95 (nobody answered that one!) My niece says it's because I fix the easy stuff so fast I have too much time to obsess on the wacky stuff.
