Smile Reading the Check engine light

My check engine light keeps comming on. What method do I use to get the codes to find out my problem? I know I have to count how many times the check engine light flashes but how do I get to that point.
Thanks

Re: Reading the Check engine light

You need to take it to AutoZone or NAPA or some other parts house where they say they can read codes. Unfortunately beginning with the 1998 model year, this is the only way you can pull the codes.
