can newer trannys fit on older camrys?
Well my 1985 Camry doesn't have reverse and I don't know when it was lost. And with my budget my only option is getting one from the junk yard. The problem is most of the cars there have 200k miles and im at 234k. So I looked up the tranny and its a aisin A140E. The A140E is on 1983-2001 Camry's. SO I was thinking of getting one from an ,88 or newer with less miles on it, but would it be compatible. Or should I just go with a 84-87 tranny?

U could call your local trannie rebuilder for an opinion on that.
If you're poor, offer to work part-time for the guy, sweep-up, chase parts, clean the loo, paint walls, u-name-it. If you play music, do a gig at his wife's birthday. Get creative. I learned a long time ago that easy times teach us nothing - nada! Best of luck |

Re: can newer trannys fit on older camrys?
High miles doesn't necessarily mean it's junk, but many trannys are used across different vehicle platforms. So don't just limit yourself to YOUR make and model. Check for newer Corollas, Celicas, and even Supras with that engine/tranny combo.
