gas tank/ door problem

I don't even know what this is but its a problem that makes the gas tank door of my 2000 cavalier not close all the way. I really don't know what the problem is or how to fix it. Also does anyone have an automatic fuel door on 98 - 02 cav?

Re: gas tank/ door problem

It appears that someone attempted to pry the fuel door open (probably to siphon out fuel) and bent the shot pin in the process. The scratching on the paint in that area is further evidence of the prying.

You need to straighten the shot pin and touch up the paint around the fuel door before it rusts that area through.

Yeah that's what I had originally thought! I didn't know for sure but with the scratches I guess that's the best guess. Thanks
