Installing ignition lock cylinder

how in the world do you get it to go back in after you get it out? I have tried following the haynes manual, and at one point it says to push in the pin, well, that is kind of impossible since the pin is inside the cylinder. Any advice?

Re: Installing ignition lock cylinder

Reverse from the way you took it off. Insert key and turn to get the lock in the cylinder(don't think its required, but might make it easier on you). For ease installing, either cut slots in the old bolts, or go to a hardware store and pick up some new bolts(just take the old ones down to find out the thread pattern and try and pick on out that is close to it)....cutting slots in the top works just fine though. Place the main part of the switch on the column where the lock will insert the steering column(you will see the cut out on the column), match up the other half of the switch and start one bolt, then the other. Tighten the bolts, and put everything else back together.

Don't know what pin you are talking about, only one I can think of is the lock for the column. If its in the cylinder, then thats where it needs to be with the key in the switch. If the key isn't in the switch and it isn't sticking out, you picked up a broken switch.

Re: Installing ignition lock cylinder

I should have said the key cylinder i guess. I got it in though, the pin that you have to push to get it out, was the one I was referring to. I have no idea what I did, but after over an hour of frustration, it just popped in, go figure.

Re: Installing ignition lock cylinder

The pin he's referring to is the one that holds the lock cylinder to the rest of the mechanism (the part that bolts to the steering wheel) He actually took out the lock cylinder from the switch as a whole.

There is a little pin that you have to push in to get it to go back together.. this is a simple method of changing the switch if you have a key for both of them.
