2000 Lincoln LS Technical Manual Needed

Hello - does anyone know if there is a technical manual out there for a 2000 Lincoln LS V6? I cannot find one anywhere. Also, my dad (semi-mechanic) is about to attempt to repair a blown head gasket in this Lincoln LS...any pointers I can pass along to him to help him out? We originally thought the car just needed a tune up, but one of the wells where the spark plugs lie oil is leaking in somehow, and plus now there is a milky substance on the inside of the oil cap...hence we think it could be a blown gasket. Any body else went through this...what was the level of difficulty? My dad is pretty good, but should we take it back to Lincoln and how much do you think they will charge me for something like this? Sorry for all the questions...just frustrated and want my car back...I LOVE THE DAMN THING! Thanks for any info. Chris

If you're looking for essentially the same information as the factory service manual, you're options are basically to purchase the factory service manual, purchase a copy of the factory manual off of a popular auction site, or subscribe to Alldatadiy.com. The data on AlldataDIY matches the factory service manual.

As for the head gasket, I'm not sure I'd suggest you invest that amount of time on it yet until you check it out further. Oil in the plug wells will not be due to a head gasket, but rather the valve cover gasket. The milky substance on the underside of the oil fill cap could just be due to you not routinely getting the engine up to operating temperature to evaporate all the condensate out of the crankcase. Does the same milky substance exist on the dipstick or if you drain the oil? If not, I wouldn't shotgun the head gaskets.

Thanks for the response...and sorry I was not clear, I was speaking of a technical repair manual, like a Haynes or similar so my father can get more information on how to do certain things on the car. As for the head gasket, he says the milky substance is just under the cap...I will need to ask him to check the dipstick and pan tomorrow. Just to give a little more background...the car idles really bad, it's definitely missing and smokes on occasion. He has already replaced the plenum gaskets on both sides and replaced the spark plugs on both sides, as well as the O2 Sensors. I will have him check a little further with the milky oil and get back on here tomorrow. Thanks for the help!!!

There are a few of us here that would struggle to call a Haynes manual a "technical manual." For general maintenance, they're fine, but you'd find the factory service manual information much more in-depth in most cases. It's the same information the dealership service technicians have access to.

Were the plugs changed as an attempt to remedy the rough running?
If so, was there any evidence of oil on the coils? How did the plug electrodes look? If there was any sign of oil on any of the coils, you probably want to change valve cover gaskets, plug well seals, and coils rather than head gaskets. Search this forum for "misfire" and you'll see many references to leaky valve cover gaskets in your model year as well as numerous posts about damaged/shorting coils due to the oil leak.
