Need SOME HELP Plz. Cranks Shaft Gear Broken!?

Hey everyone. First off I have a 1998 Geo Metro 4 door LSI with the 1.3. Well here's where I'm at with it. I changed out the crankshaft seal due to it leakin. Im the way back together on of the teeth on the crank shaft gear had gotten a nick on it and I bent it back striaght. Well now after putting it all back together and triing the timing in like 20 different positions the botton line is that it will idle when the timming belt is set to where it is supposed to be but just barely if you try and rev it up it sounds like it is hitting a rev limiter but at a very low rpm like 2000 and has a super ruff idle. Have anyone encountered a similar issue or know where I can get that Crankshaft gear with that special wheel on the back!? IS it all one piece?! Well thanks for all the help and one more thing!!

The correct timing procedure is camshaft dowel pointing down with timing mark on the top lined up and the crankshaft key way pointing up to the pointer on the block correct!? THANKS A MILLION!

This may sound stupid, check your plug wires to make sure you got the firing order right.

Re: Need SOME HELP Plz. Cranks Shaft Gear Broken!?

I'd say what you bent back was the one of the teeth on the CKP sensor rotor. Is it possible that it broke off? You can check by pulling the crank sensor from oil pan and look through the hole. If one is broke it will cause a miss. If one is broke off you'll have to take everything back apart, as you remove cover look for the broken tooth. If this is the case and you find it get some JB weld and clean both pieces with brake cleaner or something that will get oil and whatever off and glue it back on. Don't like to tell on myself but i've had this happen, (gear rolled of bench) I did this to the car I'm driving now. So I do have a little experience or inexperience with this. LOL.....If you have a broken one and can't fix you have no choice but to buy a another one. Just another thought since I'm not familiar with the 1.3 but did you put an oil pan gasket on while you were working on this? I know it screws up the 1.0 and that could be causing your problem too. Puts crank sensor to far away from rotor.
