Painting photo etch

Hey All
I have heard of different methods of preparing photo etch parts for painting when they require it, but I was wondering what the friendly folk here that have used P/E and had to paint it have done.
My big concern is painting the parts and then the paint chipping off and I am not sure primer alone will be enough.
Experience has taught me steel needs etching for paint/primer to adhere, but what is the best approach with P/E parts?

I've heard of people dipping their PE into vinegar (acetic acid) to etch it, but I'm not sure how long they leave it in, and I (think) I've heard it makes the PE less strong.

I've had good results using Tamiya or Gunze Metal Primer. Then using lacquer based paints, namely Mr. Color.

There are etching primers available in a spray can. They basically bond permanently with the surfuce of the metal and give a good surface for other paints to bond to . Automotive paint supply shops carry it.

Just about to say that, i use the same primers on my plastic kits too with no probs.
