Programming Keyless Entry 1994 Ninety-Eight

I have a 1994 Olds 98 and I need to program the keyless entry on it. I recieved the remotes from Original Keyless but the instructions they sent weren't very helpful. Does anyone have any instructions on how to do this as well as what pins (and their location) to jump on the DLC connector? Thank you.

No, I haven't yet because I was affraid of damaging the onboard computer. I wanted to make sure the pin assignments were correct. Do you think they are ok?

Yes, but be sure you are looking at the ALDL correctly! It will appear upside-down looking under the dash. Go by the shape of the terminal. Here is view of what you will see when first looking at it, notice the pin-out:

Thank you very much for the info. I was able to locate one of the old broken remotes and sure enough the FCC IDs don't match. That (I think) is why I've been having problems reprogramming the new remotes with the car. Do the FCC IDs need to match as I suspect they do?

I happen to have a remote from a 1994 PA and it appears to have FCC code #ABO0302T. This could be the same code needed for the 98 Olds. IIRC, the FCC code, is the frequency at which the unit transmits. BTW, what is the FCC code on your old (original) unit?

Both AB00302T & AB00303T are compatible with your vehicle, because I replaced one of my AB00302T with an AB00303T and it worked fine! I think the AB00104T may be for different GM model. I do have one other question. The shocks and struts are original on this car with 151000 miles on it. Are they hard to replace yourself or is it better to have a professional do it?

Yea, with 151K on the clock and if the struts are original, it is time for replacement! If you have previous experience changing struts, this car is no worse than the most. If you don’t have two floor jacks, jack stands & proper tools, it can be a PITA! Either way, 4-wheel alignment, is mandatory after replacement! Monroe Sensa-Trac is one of the best struts for the front & rear to maintain the original ride quality of your car.

Do you think the car is worth the investment? The body is in good shape but being a 14 year old car makes you wonder.... The tranny, exhaust system and most everything else is original. What's your opinion? Thanks.

Well, let's take a look a what your options are:

·Leave the existing struts on the car and continue to enjoy the bouncy ride.
·Buy a newer used car with less miles, that may need struts replaced soon anyway.
·Buy a new car, that will have new struts, but with big payments or, a major drain on your checking account!
·Replace the struts on your existing car and continue driving it with much improved ride & handling.

If there are no other major mechanical problems with the car, and if it were me, I would take the last option. Be sure to get prices from several shops for Monroe “Sensa-Trac” struts & labor! Sometimes you can find a promotion where you buy three struts and get the forth one free, get a rebate on each strut, or buy the struts and get 50% off labor to install all four. (Sears Roebuck comes to mind here) Either way, never-ever pay full list price for parts & labor! If you do your homework, you should be able to get all four struts replaced, with an alignment, for about 500 bucks!

I did a lot of calling around and found a place who would replace all struts for $600. I had prices all over the place. Some were over $800 for all 4 and others were $700 just for the front-end. I'm scheduled to take it in next week. Thanks for everyones help.

BTW, I'm still waiting on Original Keyless to send me the correct remotes. They have been horribly slow.
