1991 Chevy Silverado Stereo Install
Someone I know is asking about how to install a new deck in their 1991 Silverado. Apparently he's heard numerous stories about how you're supposed to use the amp, how he should just get rid of the amp, even that he needs to obtain a new one from the salvage yard. Does someone have a definitive answer to this? I've done some searching and I can't seem to come up with a definite answer.

Re: 1991 Chevy Silverado Stereo Install
interfacing factory systems with aftermarket equipment can be anywhere from not too bad to a real PITA. Personally, I wouldn't use any of the factory stuff. Maybe the chevy forum guys might have some more specific experience.

Re: 1991 Chevy Silverado Stereo Install
What amp are you referring to? Only time i've heard of Chevy putting a stock amp in any of their trucks is models with a BOSE system standard. All he should need is a wiring harness and most likely a dash kit.

Re: 1991 Chevy Silverado Stereo Install
I'm not sure but there is a little silver box that the wiring feeds into and from there goes to the wiring harness. My buddy at work said that that box was an amp and seeing how split up the radio is it wouldn't be a stretch I'm thinking. Thanks for the help
