Grinding when starting?

Does anyone know what this might be. The car has 130K miles and the transmission is slipping. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a car that will die soon anyway.

Re: Grinding when starting?

Our van does the same thing. A year or so ago, we blew the head gasket and when it blew it caused the motor to kick back against the starter and broke a couple teeth off the flywheel.
