Loose Piston Rings..........?

Well i have had this problem with my car since i first got it basck in 2001. My engine makes a very high-pitched clicking sound that gets very annoying. The previous owner said that she had a mechanic check it out and he said it was a loose piston ring. He also said that this wasn't affecting power or anything else. But this is very annoying for me and i would like to get it fixed, preferably by myself. Anyone know how i should do this?

if you know what you're doing, you're gonna have to remove that piston, and since you've got your motor taken apart, might as well redo all the piston rings.... they're not so expensive. The only hard thing is putting them back in, and timing it right.... otherwise, just take it to someone who knows what they're doing....

i dunno, if it doesnt sound normal, it's probably affecting something wich will lead to power loss eventually if not yet......

Is it a valve tick? loose piston rings would be causing some nasty bunring smoke, coming out of your tailpipe.

yeah, it should be loose valves, cuz if it were rings, then you would hear more of a scraping sound then a ticking.
