Re: service engine light

You can't jumper the leads on a 96' ( not sure of the cut off year) or newer vehicle. You'll need to take it to the dealer or some parts shops will hook up a scan tool and read your codes for you as well.

Re: service engine light

96 is when it was mandatory for OBD II compliance, but some manufacturers were totally/semi compliant is 95, a couple even in 94. either way, with a 99 model, you will need to use a scan tool. the local autozone will scan it for free, just don't let them tell you this is the part you need. GET THE CODES...lol. and then post them here.

Do not let them sell you a bunch of parts to go with the free code check.
Just get code and Post code no back for help with it.
What is the mileage or how long since last tune up?

Re: service engine light

finally got to get the code scanned.
It is a P0404 whitch doesnt help me out as this is a EVAP Emissions control malfunction.
in other words a loose gas cap.
I have an intermitent missfire and was hoping that the code would tell me something.
It runs fine when going down the road but when you take off it misses.
I did have this problem once and it was moisture in the cap.
Bad too. I think it got in there from the underbody washes but cant be sure.
When I find the time I will pop the cap off and see what I can fine there.

Re: service engine light

How many miles on tune up stuff?
Ac delco plugs?
Good wires?
Make sure fuel pressure is up to par.
You may need to get it on a good engine capable scanner.
Check camshaft retard settings and fuel trims and missfire counters.
If it miss fires it will show up in history codes and give what cylinders are miss firing.
And check MAF sensor.
