Head gasket
How much boost can I run safely on a stock head gasket? Will it hold up for a while?

Re: Head gasket
Probably 14 psi range without issues arising any time soon.

Re: Head gasket
I think it may be around 22-24psi. Not really sure though

Re: Head gasket
Depends what motor we are talkin about here... You've been here since November and still don't have a single spec or clue to what your car is in your sig.

Re: Head gasket
Assuming we're talking 4g63T (which I think you have), I wouldn't run more than about 20 maximum on an older motor if you want to keep up the reliability. To be a little farther on the safe side, 18 seems like a good number to me.
On a side note, like Brian said, put at least the basics about your car in your sig. Year, model, trim, tranny, and if you want, a modlist too. That way we can better help you in the future by eliminating confusion like posted above. |

Re: Head gasket
It depends entirely upon how well the car is tuned, what head bolts you have, and the current state of the headgasket. Being that I think you have a 2g (they have stretchier head bolts) I wouldnt push it past 14-15. If you have a 1g I thnk you can get away with 18-20. Regardless, I would throw some ARP's and a new(stock) headgasket before you tUrN uP dA mAd TyTe BoOsT.
![]() Oh yeah, remember head gaskets fail from knock before they will from actual boost, provided the head bolts stay. In the case of the headbolts, higher cylinder pressures cause them to stretch, thus theres less compressive forces on the headgasket and the in blows out. If you want me to go into why head bolts strech I can, but I am not going to waste my time if no ones cares. |

Re: Head gasket
I ran 2g head bolts to high 20s or 30 psi. Same with the EVO, which runs the 2g stretchy bolts but a metal HG stock. A 1g uses regular head bolts. They're no ARPs, but they'll go to 30 psi too I'm sure. The stock 4g64t mitsu composite gasket held for me up to 35 psi on ARPs, running 30 psi regularly. If this parts are failing for at lower boost pressure you're fuckin up somewhere, IMO.

Re: Head gasket
ok, so u can run mis 20's for psi if u put arp head bolts in the 4g63 motor? cause i have a 92 talon with the 1g turbo, and it has a brand new stock head and head gasket. so i was wondering if i could run mid 20's for psi if i get the arp head bolts? right now im runnin 19-20 with no problem.. let me know.. thnx

Re: Head gasket
With ARPs you could easily run above 30+, at that point it depends much more on your supporting mods than the boost pressure.
