Pressure control soleniod/valve

I was wondering if anyone (mechanic) knows how to change out the pressure control solenoid in the transmission for hard shifts? I know you have to remove the front driver side tire in order to get to this side of the transmission, and thats about it. Any help and/or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would not just do this till it is properly diagnosed, is there a trans code p1811 for instance, stored or in process. This is not any easy job to just do routinely, about 5-6 hours work with the proper equipment.

Re: Pressure control soleniod/valve

To start this is not typically a DIY job but can be done DIY with the right tools like engine hoist, etc. The PCS is located under the side cover assembly on a 4T65E autotransaxle and part of the valve body. See pic below. Requires that you raise the car and drop the engine/tranny on the subframe and tilt. But more components/items have to be removed like the hub bearing and axle shaft just to name a few.

EPC = Pressure Control Solenoid

Re: Pressure control soleniod/valve

I have a friend who is a mechanic and has all the tools for the job air compressor, engine hoist, etc jus about everything. Hes pulled out engines, trannys, transfer cases the whole 9. Im just trying to get a better grasp of what this job entails for myself and maybe if he comes into any problems i can show him some hints that i can find on this post. I went to autozone and got the code of p1811. The impala is an old beater that i drive to and from work and am not looking to pay up to 1000 when i can pay my friend a couple of 100 and some beer to do, even if he messes up the car o well, scrap... Is there any pictures, websites or diagrams that can show me the process? Thanks....

Re: Pressure control soleniod/valve

Ok if your only doing the pressure control solenoid its very easy.A fair mechanic can do it in 2hrs. remove Lf wheel, remove ball joint nut, remove axleshaft, REMOVE 11mm bolt from lower steering shaft,support transmission and remove 2 18mm subframe bolt on the drivers side only, lower subframe and trans,remove mount, remove side cover. replace solenoid. Make sure you chande fluid and filter.Take to dealer to have trans adapts and codes reset.
