brake rotor ?s

i have an 86 caprice wagon that i am gonna have to do brakes on. i HAVE a set of camaro mags that i would like to put on. i know they wont fit due to the bolt pattern being different. my question is will sedan rotors fit on the wagon spindles?????

also i will need to get the rear drums and axles either redrilled or replaced with the proper bolt pattern. will sedan axles and drums fit on this as well????

if i wanted truck wheels i would go buy some. oh wait, i already have some! i dont like the wheels that are out htere for trucks. i asked what i did as i have to replace parts anyway. rotors are warped so since i have to replace them i shoudl replace them with the crap i have now and go buy new wheels when i already have these right???? thanks for nothin!

i dont ask questions ot get smartass answers. if i wanted that i would ask my kid who would give me an "i dont know". i dont have the money to drop $600 or so on a nice set of rims in the bolt pattern i have. for me axles are about $35 each, drums and rotors are about the same. i could have my whole brake setup done for about $250. now how is that more expencive than a new set of rims when i already have these. 5 of them to be exact! wow enough for a full set PLUS a spare.

all i want ot know is if i can put the smaller sedan stuff into my wagon since parts are usually cheaper than wagon stuff and i can get a wider selection of wheels for 5x4.75 bolt pattern than 5x5.

We get these kinds of questions in here quite often from people who do not understand everything involved in such a swap and the pitfalls that await them. In addition, I have no knowledge as to your mechanical ability or any deals you may be able to get on parts and machining. Most posters probably don't have the same abilities and thus are going to be paying someone to do this conversion for them.

I have no idea what other kinds of wheels you would consider. I was thinking strictly of switch to a different steel wheel. There are plenty of those which can be purchased for less than you describe.

Now, if you're willing to spend the time and money and believe you have the ability to do such a swap, you want to get Camaro 1LE rotors for the front. I cannot recall the specific year you need. They are for a third generation f-fody,1982-1992. These rotors will fit your spindles with the proper set of bearings. They will also keep you from losing any braking performance since the other 4.75x5 patterened rotors are about an inch smaller.

Again to keep from losing any braking performance, I would recommend re-drilling the drums you have to keep their size. I am unaware of any drums the same size as the b-body wagons that would come with the 4.75x5 bolt pattern.

There is a lot of information here, in various threads, about doing the opposite of your plan. Try using the search function and look for "big brake swap".

The sedan rotors will not fit the wagon spindles, the wagon bearings are bigger, the calipers are different. To use those wheels safely, you would have to virtually swap in the whole suspension from a non-wagon car. Even then I'm not sure everything would bolt up. This is a serious down grade since the wagons are heavier and made to carry heavier loads.

I agree on going with a different wheel, you might be happy with the popular Vette style steel wheel that comes in the 5 x 5 pattern.

all ya had to say was no they wont work. 4 little words. thats all and i would have been happy. now i know they wont so i guess its back to the drawing board.

oh and i have used the search funtion here. IT SUCKS! i would rather use search on vwvortex. at least when it works it shows what i am looking for not 50 things from the honda or yugo sections that dont pertain to teh caprice questions i have.

It gives you the 1LE rotor part number to allow you to do at least the front swap you desire using factory parts.

Bob, while the sedan rotors won't swap directly, he can accomplish part of what he wants by using the f-body 1LE rotors. Plenty of people have swapped the wagon/9C1 spindles onto their cars and used these to keep the smaller bolt pattern. All that would be needed are the rotors and the bearings.
