brake lights

I have a 1997 camaro ss. When I press the brake pedal ony the middle brake light comes on. The left and right lights are always on, but the left light is always dull and the right light is always bright. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas what is causing it?

Re: brake lights

you have a short in your wiring somewhere. to me, it sounds as though youre gonna have to trace it all the way back...when you say the taillights are always on, you mean the brake lights? or you mean when you HIT the brake lights, they go on, one side brighter than the other?

Re: brake lights

the taillights are only on when the headlights are on, but one side is bright and the other side dull, both sides have new bulbs. There is no change when the brake pedal is pressed.

I have the same issue on my 97 Z28. I traced it back to a bad bulb socket in the taillight. I would suggest pulling the bulbs one at a time and see if it corrects itself. If you pull one and the tailight goes back to normal, you know it is that socket.
