Hesitation and burning smell

Maybe someone can help me with my 2002 Explorer. When going on short trips (2 miles) after driving maybe 20 miles, I had a slight vibration or hesitation. When I got home I smelled burning rubber. This has happened twice. It felt like I might have been driving with the E-brake on, or in the wrong gear. Help! Repair shops always try to rip me off.

Your issue doesn't sound related to the rear differential, you really should move your post to a new thread.
