Alright, figured I haven't seen a thread about this, so I just want to get everyones opinion on the best tire, and for what reason?
Right now I think I have some 205/50/15s on my car, don't even know what brand, and they lick balls. No grip at all. I know when I still had my steelies on it, I had some cheap Champiro Tires, can't remember what size, and man did those suckers have some grip on them, especially for the price, 20 bucks a tire. Alright, other than that, I have no more tire experience. So its everyone elses turn.

I have Yokohama Avid T4's on my car - currently in stock steelie size of 175/70R/13 - I liked them so much I also bought a full set for the GF's 90 Corolla. I was always a Michelin guy, but I had a pair recently which finally made me realize that $92 per tire for non-performance tires is too much for this car. I got these Yokohama's at $34 each - They are classified as "performance all-season" and received decent reviews from the Tire Rack. I will buy 100 of these before I buy another Michelin ![]() Now for larger/lower profile sizes - like 60/55/50 series...If I ever get my Si or GSR wheels, I will probably see what is a little higher up the performance ladder in Yokohama again...Kumho's are a good bang for the buck, but peeps seem to burn thru them pretty fast (maybe literally)

Re mid range high perf tires:
Not sure what is on the Civic now (tires I bought it with - Some sort of Bridgestone from Sams I think) but I have run Pirelli P7000SS which is an all season high perf tire on another car. They weren't bad but I wouldn't buy them again. Got a good deal the first time is the only reason I bought them. I have run the Kumho 712s in 17. Good bang for the buck. Last a long time for a performance tire (I got prob 28k out of them...camber hurt them but that is pretty darn good). Right in that price rance the Sumu HRZII were also well regarded and I would maybe choose them over the 712s. 712s were great in the rain but a touch less dry traction than I was hoping. Still pretty darn good though. I am currently running a set of the new Kumho MXs. A little more expensive but MUCH stickier than the 712. Looks like they will wear much quicker though and start off with only 9/32 of tread vs the usual 10/32. Wide for their size in a 245/40. Great bang for buck. Tirerack was selling the old Yoko Intermediates for cheap cheap cheap. Good tire in the dry from what I hear but scary in the wet. Thats all I got. Oh and also heard good things about the Yoko ES100s. |
