2002 Jetta GLS transmission problems

I have a 2002 Jetta GLS 2.0L with 78,500 miles on it. Check engine light came on a couple of days ago and car wouldn't shift until rpms were much higher than normal and would downshift abruptly when slowing down.

Today after limited driving, it went into limp mode and is stuck in third gear.

Codes:

PO1570 - Control Unit Locked
PO300 - Random/ Multiple cyl misfire
PO303 - Cyc 3 misfire
PO302 -CYL 2 misfire
00281 - VSS GAS nonresponsive

came up. A mechanic told me they would need to rebuild the transmission as there is an internal problem. That would run $3k plus.

Any answers/ ideas? To me it just sounds like the sensors (speed and O2) need to be replaced.

Thanks for your help.

Re: 2002 Jetta GLS transmission problems

sounds like the speed sensor in the transmission has failed. I would have another shop check. Also you may have a faulty ignition coil or wires causing misfires.
