When good spindles go bad!!!

This is why I suggest checking your maintenance logs, if you have them, to make sure your spindles have been replaced. On street tires they are good for a few years. On slicks, they should be inspected annually and probably be relegated to "spares" after 2- 3 years if driven hard. They are a custom part but Josh does have them in stock.

Hi John, Jim here... Green Panoz GTS (PDA car) I didn't get any kind of maintenance log so I'm in the dark as to what has or has not been done. Do you have any idea when the spindles on my car were replaced/maintenanced? TIA

BTW, after getting a few of the smaller issues sorted out, I'm having a BLAST with this car!

Ahhh... so that's the part that shears off! Ok... I will check mine and replace them before running slicks.

I have been unable to find a maintenance log for that car. I do know that car has been completely gone through (stripped down, sand blasted to the bare metal and re-powdercoated) at least once in the last few years. I don't think it has had a lot of hard use since it's last rebuild. I would assume most of the demo drives are short enough in duration, don't require the curb hopping of a real race and don't put as much load on the car since no one wants to push the car hard enough to risk wrecking it and having to buy it! The bottom line is that I can't tell you when or if the spindles have been replaced. My gut feeling is that you are probably OK, but from a piece of mind standpoint, I would suggest at least inspecting them. Of course once you have the hub off, it's not really a big deal to swap out the spindles and then you would know for sure. Not a very conclusive answer!

Jim...I hate to go against you on this but I have found in the past that super glue works better on putting spindles back together.....I posted it somewhere else but Everyone needs to know that twoards the end of the school and series a lot of these cars were changed around so be careful with your log-book information...Just because you have car # 12 dosen't mean it was car #12 6 mounths ago...I would not go by the log books for a maint. program...The best thing to do is start your own program and be thankful you have the log books as part of the car history..For the damage you can do to yourself ( not to mention taking out one of your buddies ) VS the price, (unless you are absolutley sure yours have been replaced) You should at least have them magnafluxed or even better ( I'm going to do this to my series car ) Give Josh a shout at PAD ( Panoz ) and buy a new set from them....If any of you have ever seen one break it is VERY UGLY...It's not worth tearing up a good car over....Gary
