Guys that know 5.0s have a few questions (PICS)
Hey guys who know 5.0 motors... turns out this car has an australian Falcon motor. It's still a stock 5.0 but with the manifold flipped. I have some questions:
What are these two ports on the back of the throttle-body? Are they coolant lines for the factory application? ![]() Is this my coolant temp sensor for the PI? ![]() What are these two plugs? One is not connected. ![]() What is this do-hickey on the left side of the TB? It's not plugged in either. ![]() Thank you.

Re: Guys that know 5.0s have a few questions (PICS)
Well I got all my questions answere through some mustang friends... here goes to help anyone else.
*The two ports on the back of the TB are, as I suspected, to circulate coolant to heat up the TB on cold days and to offset the heat from the EGR system. I'm going to cap them off. *That sensor is my coolant temp as I suspected. *The 2 plugs are due to the fact that it is a dual-sensor TPS setup. It's from the Aussie Falcon automoatics. Only one is needed here. *The Do-Hickey is the EGR valve... I will most likely remove it and block it off.

I pulled the EGR off and took some time going over all the wireing w/ fresh electrical tape and zip ties. Cleaned it up a bit and got the wiring all secure. When road racing if it can move it will move. I'm going to get a blockoff plate for the EGR.
So if the EGR was hooked up on a factory car where does the exhaust get injected? ![]()

Re: Guys that know 5.0s have a few questions (PICS)
The exhaust runs through a port in the intake manifold up from the heads. I do not remember off the top of my head where it is introduced into the intake stream. When I went through the conversion of this motor from Aussie spec to make it work in this application I looked at removing the entire EGR spacer behind the throttle body, but due to cost reasons it was easier to leave it and just disconnect it all. The hassle of taking it apart, scraping the gasket faces, cost of new gaskets, and cost of changing to shorter studs all equated to raising the cost of the car to gain nothing but a cleaner look.
Incidentally, the explorer motors required the most work to convert over for these cars. They were actually coil pack engines without distributors when we got them. The entire front of the motor - timing cover, water pump, etc had to be changed out as well. But, it was a lot easier than trying to piece together engines from entirely new parts or rebuilds! You probably wouldn't think it that hard to come up with one engine, but how about a batch of 24 that match? |

^ Thanks for the info... I looked into the full delete plate, but no point in all the expense fore a cleaner look on a race car. I ordered a $15 3.25" EGR blockoff plate and capped the coolant lines on the rear side.

Oh... and another thing... can I ditch the PCV line from the oil fill neck to the TB and run a breather?
Will these motors exhaust crank pressure effectively w/o a vaccum source?

Re: Guys that know 5.0s have a few questions (PICS)
Ok... more research on my part!
I ordered a K&N screw in breather to replace the oil fill cap. I will be removing the PCV line from the oil fill neck to the TB. The rest of the PCV system is allready removed/capped. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...part=KNN%2D62% ![]() Also, if you need plug wires, there is a vendor on corral.net selling Ford Racing 9mm plug wires in red, blue, or black for $41 shipped... this is very cheap. They have 45 degree bends in them which is what I think the ones on my car are, I'll have to check before I order. My car has 4 different types of plug wires! Just look up 89notchbk on www.corral.net

Re: Guys that know 5.0s have a few questions (PICS)
We ran the PCV system instead of an open element like the K&N you posted for one main reason. Most sanctioning bodies and tracks require a catch can on the crankcase breather unless you have a PCV system which lets the engine "eat" any oil that decides to come out. While that breather will function just fine I think you'll be asked to add a catch can when you show up at the track.

^ Ok... I'll keep that in mind and bring the PCV line w/ my spare parts.
