amps

ok, so i looked all over and nobody tells me where to look on speakers and subs to find out how strong of an amp you need
do you look for the peak power or continuous power hadling on the speaker? And what do you look for on the amp to match up w/ that? the peak or RMS output?

Re: amps

never look at peak. peak is bascially a market gimmick. Look at RMS and ONLY RMS.

Re: amps

depends on speakers really. You can blow a speaker on rated RMS even if the amp puts out rated RMS if you're sending it a clipped signal... I ran 1100RMS on a pair of Infinity Reference 1230s and there RMS is 300RMS a peice... so 600rms combined. If you send it a clean signal some subs can take double or even tripple rated RMS... Not saying you SHOULD though.

Re: amps

so if you can't get exactly the same, is it better to give it too much or too little power?

Re: amps

I would get too much (not TOO MUCH, unless your experienced) and adjust the gain to the correct RMS
