URGENT need help quick plz w/ TPS!!
See my thread "91 cutlass cierra stall/hestitation". Alright so I tried changing the tps today and I have two TPS that i pulled off of 3300's, one is moveable and the other is fixed. I tried both. The one off my car was moveable. Alright so heres the thing my TPS readings go BACKWARDS?? like for example instead of being .3-1 volt at idle and 4-5v at WOT its like 4.7v at idle then it goes down to like .9 at WOT. What is goin on am i doing something wrong??
Heres how i tested it: Cut insulation of the two wires (a and b) from connector stuck jumpers from voltmeter into wires plugged harness into tps turned ignition on I also tried it with car running, same thing, on BOTH sensors. everything looks like its right???????? ![]() ![]()

Maxwedge:
Welcome to AF. Did you scan it and look at the coolant temp sensor readings cold, when you changed the base idle setting you also changed the tps adjustment, this is not supposed to be moved, you will have to readjust it and check the tps setting. Go to autozone.com, repair guides for component locations and adjustment/check procedures. I think what zeroinfinity meant by jumpers, is taking some spare wire you have, strip the insulation off the ends of the spare wire (2 pieces of wire)and insert this thin bare wire inside the connector and put it together, so it is "sandwiched" inside. Use the other end of the spare wire (strip that too) to connect your meter too. NOT to strip the insulation on the connector itself and attach meter leads. I would try to adjust your base idle setting by the autozone help file (maxwedge) or get a professional to do it. Then i'd see what is going on from there. iF you PCM is confused, who knows what else is!!

Re: URGENT need help quick plz w/ TPS!!
I tried using wires and the connector wouldnt go in, it shouldnt make a difference tho. The idle screw has nothing to do with it, the voltage readings should still go from LOW to HIGH. not from high to low like whats happening with mine.
