94 tracker clutch problem

My 94 Tracker has 180,000 miles and no problems until now. I have to depress my clutch pedal all the way to the floor to get it to shift gears, and even then it does so reluctantly. Do I need a new clutch or is this something that will take an easier and less expensive fix? I know nothing about auto repair and don't want to get ripped off by a mechanic - it happened way too often when i owned Hondas. Any help will be appreciated.

Re: 94 tracker clutch problem

Most likely the clutch cable needs adjusted or replaced. I had a new one put in at about 110,000 miles because mine was doing the same thing you describe. Turns out the old one was frayed and stretched out. Wasn't that expensive to have done and its shifted smoothe as butter for the last 20,000 miles .
