airbag light flashing 92 e150
my 92 e150 airbag light flashes once then two quick [12 ?] . since this is safety equipment I don't plan on repairing myself , unless very simple , but would like to know possible causes . van is not driven much and the only thing I've done to it lately is clean battery lugs and posts . any help you can offer will be appreciated .

Diagnostic trouble code 12 is low battery voltage. The air bag diagnostic moniter measures voltage at battery voltage. If it drops below 9 volts the light will come on.

Most of the time, a code 12 is a blown fuse for the airbag system. Check that. Aside from that the previous post was correct...low voltage.
Here is some information about airbags...this site also has fault code charts for every car!!! On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. Most systems can only be diagnosed using a scanner designed for the airbag system, however some use flash codes to indicate the problem. The scanners at Auto Zone or the ones that sell for @ $50 will not access the airbag system, only the engine systems (check engine light). This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting some systems without a scanner.
