Drove into a ditch...now it makes a strange noise?

A couple days ago I was driving my '98 Ranger down the road and hit a patch of ice and lost control of the vehicle. I ended up driving into a steep ditch (need new tires, but thats another issue). Using 4WD I was able to get out alright. Everything seems fine with my truck except that I can hear a noise that I didn't hear before. It's a quiet, somewhat high pitched "squeaking" type of noise that's audible inside the truck. And the noise stops when I am not moving. Since I do not know much about cars...any ideas? Should I take it in somewhere and have it looked at? If so, where would you recommend I take it? Does Les Schwab handle stuff like this?

It could be a couple different things, especially if your drivetrain is pretty much what hit, the force of the impact could have damaged a couple different things, even a wheel bearing or could have bent or twisted something, I'd take it to a shop if your not to keen on working on vehicles just to be safe incase it's something that could get to the point of putting you into an accident.

Will they charge me to take a look at it? Does Les Schwab do stuff like that? I just moved to this town recently, don't want to go somewhere that I can't really trust.

To tell ya the truth, I haven't been to one of those places, if and when I go to a mechanic garage I go to one I'm related to the owner or know the owner so I haven't been charged for a vehicle to be looked at, so I'm not sure, I kinda doubt that they'd charge to look at it unless they have to take something apart to figure out the problem.

Re: Drove into a ditch...now it makes a strange noise?

to eliminate drivetrain.... on a straight stretch of road with no traffic around put it in neutral and switch off the engine if the noise it can still be the rearend but you eliminated engine, transmission and the mounts for those.
