Transaxle Service

Hello, I have a '94 Continental with the 3.8 liter V-6 and an AXOD automatic transaxle.

I just bought a transaxle filter and gasket kit so that I can service the tranny. The parts store computer said it takes 12.5 quarts of fluid, but the guy at the counter said that couldn't be right because it wouldn't all drain out when I take the pan off. So I didn't buy any fluid yet.

Can anyone tell me about how much I should buy to get started?
Also, what if I decide to change all the old fluid? Is there a way to get it all out?

(The fluid is probably old but it is still red and smells OK to me.)

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Re: Transaxle Service

I would get about 5 - 6 quarts of tranny fluid..
And no, there's no way you can drain the rest out.
