Window fell down into door
Hello all I have a 99 Grand Am GT 4 door and yesterday when i shut my driver's door the window fell down into the door. last saturday i was putting my window up and i hear a snap or crack noise so i thought i broke something. well yeserday proved that i broke the white plastic pieces on the regulator. and when the window fell it also broke the two sashes that are glued to the window. so today i was planning on going to the GM dealer to buy 2 regulator clips and 2 sash clips. i got many different part numbers but does anybody know the correct numbers? i have 22697622 and 22689012 for the sashes and i dotn know which is correct. and i have 2 other numbers for the regulator clips too. please help i need the car asap please and thanks.

Re: Window fell down into door
and id like to also like to ask how to put the white slider clips on. i see on both sides of the regulator there is a small hex-shaped piece attached to the cable. do the white slider clips rest on top of these hex pieces? thanks in advance.

Re: Window fell down into door
Yup- I too had this problem on my 2001 Grand Am. You don't replace the clips. You replace the entire actuator assembly which has the motor, cable and sliders. It was easier to replace that I thought it would be. a few bolts and the bolts that hold the clips to the window. There are a few on line repair manuals that have good pictures. Dealer wanted $175 for the assembly. Red Neck autoparts (that's really their name) sent me a new one for $51. You can replace this yourself.

Re: Window fell down into door
Very cool. I wasn't able to buy the plastic clips separately or I would have tried something similar. I may need your help in locating the clips when the passenger side windows does the same.
I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT. |

Re: Window fell down into door
Same thing happened to me. The clips were bonded to the window. They come on the new piece of glass. Here is the link with a replacment part that has been working fine for me for the last 2 years and it MUCH cheaper then the dealer part. Good Luck

Re: Window fell down into door
There must be a difference in the years. Mine were bolted onto the window and could be removed from the glass by removing 2 bolts. I tried to get just the plastic pieces from the dealer but they were the one that told me that I had to buy the whole assembly.

Re: Window fell down into door
Yeah the stealership likes to tell you that so you'll spend more money.
The clips are available, both styles, which the newr GAs do use the bolt ons but they are still glued from what I've seen. It's also best to wait 24hr( or longer) for that Epoxy to dry, for best results.

Cool - Thank you for the information. I learned more from posting a reply than any of my searches.
THanks again |

Re: Window fell down into door
Search can be screwy sometimes.
I know this has been a problem discussed a few times here in the grand am forum and in the N body(& alero) forums. Slamming the door and or pushing/pulling on the door glass is usualy what breaks the clips. Well other then being to small of clips to hold the glass IMO.

Re: Window fell down into door
When the plastic clips broke on my drivers door I just went to the salvage yard. They only cost me a buck each. Advanced Auto wanted 150 for the whole regulator.
