Advice? Best advice I can give is if you have emissions is to hold on to your old cat conv. just incase.

Test pipe replacement is possibly one of the best N/A mods you can do especially for the price, your car will pull hard and all the way to redline. Def. one of those mods once you do you will actually notice a little gain in power. They rate it for 7-8hp, which isin't bad for $40.
There are mods out there that people are paying $500 or more just for 10hp so not a bad deal.

Re: taking off the cat

He is right it is a neat and quick little boost. Just make sure to have the new gaskets to put on it when you replace to prevent the exhaust from leaking out by your door. I had put my old ones on and had to pull it off and replace them. But as he says keep it around in case you need to pass inspection.

Re: taking off the cat

agh... test pipe...

why not buy the stillen downpipe that not only replaces the restrictive stock, but it ALSO deletes the main cat?

And as an added bonus, during install, you can gut your precats

if you have emissions, ignore the stillen pipe, but you can still gut your precats and buy a test pipe/save main cat.

Re: taking off the cat

yeah. his 99 is the cali.

another suggestion is to replace your catalytic converter with a glasspack to act as a resonator. that's what i was being told when i was asking about my exhaust. you can put on a new exhaust at a later time.

Re: taking off the cat

Listen if you want the best setup go with a custom catback that any exhaust shop can make for you which will be much cheaper, then replace the cat with a test pipe, you may pick one up at 3sx.com for like $40. After that if you really looking to take advantage of your exhaust system, look into headers, or a downpipe. Downpipes are more cost effective and the one at 3sx dynos at 13hp to the ground which is really good considering the very short amount of upgrades avalilable for the N/A that actually add power.

Re: taking off the cat

smartest thing to do is , go buy some used cats, gut them out its easy put those on so when u have to pass smog later on u just swap bak in ur good cats pass then swap out ur empty ones also it helps when u get poped by a cop he looks down there he will see cats on the car and not know there hollowed out so yeah thats what i did with all my cars and it saved me alot haha instead of seeing no cat and a test pipe they saw a cat that was my test pipe :-d

Yes the exhaust shops will take the metals to recyclicing centers or metal shops for a little extra cash, even junk yards will take old cats and mufflers.
