Another 917

Been working on this 71 winner(Martini), just started the decals. Just curbside, I really appreciate what others have done with this kit because it's allot of work just to do curbside. I broke some of the tubing around the engine a couple of times. I used the black out of Tamiya's Weathering set 'D' to dirty the exhaust. I a m using the Studio 27 photo etch.

Nice! I'm curious about how the decals turn out!

That's the latest kit i bought actually and i have mixed emotions after seeing the decals....
I was quite surprised that S27 didn't make any. I might get the ones from LMM and use those....

Thanks. The decals are fine though a lttle thin. They lay down nicely. The front fender decals would be a little tricky no matter who made them.

Studio27 definitely made the decals for the Silver Martini 917K from 1971 so it is kind of surprising if they didn't make the white winner version.

I agree with 935k3 though, with the shape of the nose as it is, it wouldn't matter who made the decals, they will be tricky.

I'll be watching, I picked up the same kit (Fujima, right?) off Ebay (though still waiting it to deliver, they are very late!) and look forward to building it sometime.

As I did the green "Hippie"-Version I can asure you that the decals are rather easy to apply - even on the front fender. Just take your time - and I know you will - and everything will work out smoothly. BAck when I did my 917K, I pnly used water and a paper towel (no Microset oder Microsol back then) and it still worked!
What did you use for seatbelts as I plan to build a bunch of 917K in the future but try to keep it as easy with the interior as possible. Good luck with the rest, but it seems that you are almost done...

Re: Another 917

Your progress looks great! As far as decals, I have a set of the Profil24, which look really nice. I was however thinking about doing a limited run of silk screen decals specifically for the Fujimi kit if I can find an artist at a reasonable price. I have been thinking of many decals in limited run, but I can't "draw" the stuff myself. If anyone knows of someone, please let me know. I do have a couple of resin items coming for the 917 soon though.
Nic

I used some electrical tape that has a nice weave pattern molded on it(found at a local flea market), it was gray so I airbrushed them black. Photo etch buckles are scaleracecar's.

Nic: I'll do the job at public benefit: if you're wondering to create a cost-price set for forum's members I'm in and i'll do graphic for free, professional standard. At least I'm in needs of those decals too.

935K3 you're doing a fantastic job, sorry for the intrusion: I have several 917 too and I'm avid of any build or info. I'm wondering if is right I leave the ferrari side for the dark one LOL

Ok to my question: guys anuone know how I'll manake the Gulf '71 (MOnza) 917K or the Martini '70 935s doing to suit the Monthlery/Kyalamy red/yellow Hippy decals? Just cutting wings and sharpening the tail? Sorry if you feel the question stupid but I'm not an expert of this stuff, despite I start to love it.

Lovely clean work you have done here

Looking forward to seeing the body to go with it.

Re: Another 917

Really nice looking job so far...I never tire of seeing 917 WIPs for some reason.

My '70 917 arrived by post this morning - found it in stock and cheap in the UK (for once). Nice kit but 1/24th is just too small for my tired old eyes! I'll be putting mine by for reference and inspiration for my next 1/8th scratchbuild!

Sorry, I donīt really get what you want to know. Do you want to know what kind of modifications you will have to add to the base kits - thinking about it - the "late" yellow hippie was run in 1970 (as far as I remember right). Or dou you want to make a "phantom" 935 with the Hippie markings. Please specify and I try to help you out.

Yep sorry: not, I wannot do a phantom: I noticed that the yellow hippy car has a different (straight) rear cowl, and not wing: sorry if sound stupid but I know nothing on the matter: I must study a bit I suppose...

So the question is: are the only mods in the cowl and exist already a kit with modified hood? I got a heller and a couple Fujimi, all with same wing configuration.
