22RE engine to replace 22RET

Can a regular 22re motor replace a 22 RET motor by placeing the turbo and other componets to replace the stock ones.Is the compression ratio that differant to blow replacement motor? This is to trplece the clancking engine I posted before can't figure where noise is coming from but is really bad so its got to be bad to fix found a rebuilt 22re for 400.00 coming out of a later forunner.Just wondering if this is doable before buying the motor .thanks Mitch

Re: 22RE engine to replace 22RET

The RTE has a stronger block, hardened pistons, and fittings for the turbo oil lines.
You could drill and tap a RE block for the oil line fittings and use it, and it might last awhile if you were easy on it.

A 22RTE for $400 is toasted.
A "decent" running one will be in the neighborhood of $1000-1500.
They just don't last due to abuse and poor maintainence.
