Question Why Are they so fast?

Earlier this month I on the way home from college I found myself following a brand new Cougar. Eventuly I pulled up to a stop light next to it. My saturn was at this time completely stock minus a cold air intake.
I shifted at 3,000 in first because I didnt think the cougar was racing. I saw her begin to speed up drastically and I followed by stomping the gas in second. When all was said and done I beat her by about 1 car length. We finally stoped around 100 MPH I found this amazing that my little 96' SC2 had just beat a 6 cylinder that runs 0-60 MPH in 7.5 seconds but after checking out the forums on saturnspeed.com I found that this was not out of the ordinary.

So I was wondering why are the saturns so quick and does anyone know the stock 0-60 times for a 96' SC2?

Maybe the gearing is lower? 0-60 in 7 for a 4 banger is not bad.

You mean that at 3000 rpm youre doing 25 mph?, woah, at 2000 rpm I do 30 mph. You know I drove a Saturn once, 4 door model and it also handled pretty well.

My Saturn redlines @ 6500 rpm in first gear or 25 miles per hour
I have a manual tranny so I also have five speeds. I can also push my car past redline to at least 7000 rpm but it isint the smartest thing to do.
Sooner or later I will start building my motor so I will probably be able to rev pretty High.
I just recieved my engine block off of ebay so If I get some money I will start buying parts for it.

Was the Cougar a manual or an automatic. The Cougar's auto adds a full 1.5 seconds to its 0-60 time, bringing it to just over 9 seconds.

Just wiat till (if you want to) add some modds, you think it's fast now, when you add some mods you'll b beating faster cars than the one you did.
