3 Series Odometer light out...

The odometer on our 1997 328 does not light up. Does it have a replaceable bulb? Do I have to remove the steering wheel (and therefore airbag) to get to it? Do I need special tools/equipment to reset the airbag system or the dashboard.

Thumbs up Re: 3 Series Odometer light out...

It is a pretty easy fix. had the same in my 94 318is. Just remove the 2 screws from the cluster at the top then gently pull the cluster out. I got pretty creative with this and used a suction cup placed at the center of the glass on the cluster. I had seen forums that people had marred or scratched the cluster and surrounding by trying to pry it out. I pulled it out as far as I could and slightly to the side and didn't have to disconnect any wiring, but you have to jam your head up close in to see back there. The bulb is directly behind where you see it on the cluster, i used a small ratchet with an extension and with a 1/4 turn the bulb came out.

btw- I went to BMW to get the bulb prior to doing this, it was $4, just tell them the year and make and that you need it for the odometer and they will give you the right one.

Hope that helps
