HELP: Should the 2 piece rotor be solid? My rotor discs jiggle, they're a bit loose.
I've never dealt with proper 2-part rotors my Z06 uses NAPA one piecers that are disposable at HPDEs. I tore the car down today for a full inspection and will be installing my ultrashield seat etc.
The wheel bearings were all repacked in August this year and the car was not run since then. Also they put in new pads and re-placed the differential seals etc. Car looks awesome, but I can jiggle the rotors some, it seems as if they're not tight to the rotor hats. I know the advantage of a 2-part rotor is that the disk can grow/shrink when it gets hot and cools to make it last longer w/o cracking. However, I'd assume the disc should be tight to the hat? Seems very easy to go around the circle (maybe us a star pattern) to tighten them up? Any torque spec? They're not loose on purpose are they (meaning they get tight as the rotor heats up and expands?) Any advice/direction would be awesome. ~Brian |

Re: HELP: Should the 2 piece rotor be solid? My rotor discs jiggle, they're a bit loose.
Well looking through the GTS manual Jim has on his site I think I answered my own question. It states to tighten them to 60 in/lbs then check that the rotors still float. It states there should be a little play between the rotors/hats.
Glad I researched before tightening them more. If you guys haven't read it yet, print out that manual... it has everything... even service interval recomendations etc. |
