96 Cherokee - Missing, backfire only on initial start
My 96 Cherokee Sport (4.0 w/110K miles) doesn't exactly miss more like its trying to stall and will sometimes backfire (under hood) but only the first time I apply throttle after the car has been shut off. Doesn't seem to matter how long car has been off - few minutes or overnight. If I back off the throttle for a second then reapply throttle it runs great.
Tried a can of BG 18K and that seemed to help a little but not for long. I'm debating having the throttle body cleaned. The fact this only happens after the car has been shut off but not necessarily cold has me baffled (although that's easy these days). Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. |

Re: 96 Cherokee - Missing, backfire only on initial start
Instead of having just the throttle body cleaned take it to a repair shop or a dealer and tell them you want a top end cleaning. It should only be around 100 and it is pressurized cleaning agents that go in through the throttle body that clean the TB, intake, plugs, valves everything except the fuel injection part. I had it done to my 92 when i first bought it and could tell an immediate difference when it was done. Also consider a tune up if one has never been done as it could be something there too.
