Re: oil pan for 3.8L 97 lx ?!?!?
Do a search on ebay and also use a search engine for a new or used pan. You can pull it and clean it good. Try and find a weld shop with an argon shielded mig welder to weld it. I've also seen people braze them but it still needs cleaned to do this. Drill a hole at both ends of the crack. Before attempting to repair. Most junk yards will also send out asking other yards for a pan.
Basically you will need 4 jack stands and an engine hoist to raise up the motor enough to pull they pan. Be careful and don't break anything. Allow at least a weekend and get a friend to help you. The strainer sticks into the pan very close to the bottom is why the motor needs raised. Make sure to clean the strainer. They can repair oil leaks in large transformers by pulling a vacuum and using epoxy. I just don't know how to do this on an engine. You might try draining the oil use some thing to flush and clean then epoxy. |
