my 99 cougar is sick, please help
I have a 1999 cougar with 2.5 v/6 and AT. I just purchased it and here is what it does. The battery light is on but the battery is charging fine at 14.5 volts, The speedometer is not working and it won't come out of first gear. It also sounds like there is something rolling around the top of the engine and making noise at will. There is no rhythm to it it is very spuratic. Does the speedo not working have anything to do with it not shifting? Why is the battery light on if the battery is being charged properly? Are these cars normally electrically challenged? Thanks.

Re: my 99 cougar is sick, please help
whats up, 99 cougars are all computers, not like the older 3.8,4.6,5.0.... go to your local parts store get a obd check up, that checks for codes[readings] on whats wrong with your car..

Re: my 99 cougar is sick, please help
I had the same problem with my 99 Cougar. The alternator light stayed on and the output voltage was normal. The culprit was the alternator light wire on the alternator. It is the narrow single wire with plug in connector. My connector was broken and slipped off the terminal causing the light to indicate a malfunctioning alternator.
