Get fuel out Pontiac ts 1995 v6 3800 3.8

Hi,

I just got my engine out (V6 3.8 vinL). I am bussy changing it for a 3800 series II engine.
So b.t.w. if somebody is interested. I have info, pictures etc.

But.... My fuel tank is full and I want to get the (old) fuel out.
Because the engine is out (and so are all the engine cables) the pump will not run to get the fuel out when I turn the key.
I tried to suck it out, but I can't get to the fuel. It keeps on getting air.
I found a connector unther the car nearby the fuel filter.
But are these the wires to put power on (which two)?

Can anybody help me how to get the fuel out!
Thanks very much!

Tom.

Yes .. that is really the way to emty the tank but cannot confirm these are the wires that feed the fuel pump . CHeck color: 4 wires? black and black are grounds and gray is +12V to pump, purple is level sender, ...Polarity must be respected as the pump would rotate in opposite direction if reverse connection is used:
www.avigex.ca/xport/fuelcontrol_iac.jpg

you can also access that ...

( this method somewhat complicated, left here just for the record....from plug C200 at base of LH A pillar, left of parking brake, cavity B3 www.avigex.ca/xport/C200pinout.jpg
www.avigex.ca/xport/C200location.jpg ..based on the '93 diagram, which is most probably similar).

or directly from the relay socket as seen on diagram. There is even a red wire that hangs around seemingly doing nothing and this is the "primer" wire for the fuel pump: relay must be in socket and applying 12V to this red wire fires the pump. I think this is seen here:
www.avigex.ca/xport/Dsc06465.jpg

..and as soon you have the slightest sign that pump is taking air, stop immediately. There have been numerous reports that pump that went bone dry did not survive the event....(whatever the cause)..

ANd YES, pictures and reports of the engine swap are highly wanted. Did you keep the original electronics? THis is a first here and everyone will enjoy hearing more. If you do not want the hassle to host the photos, just send them: I will host them for you if you want so everyone can access them. (will e-mail you the links so you post them yourself).

What are the major differences between the serie I and II engine? (I do know that the serie II engine have more power). What car are you getting the new engine from?

Hi,

Thanks to the info from LMP I managed to run the fuel pump and get all the fuel out!

Thanks very much.

If you can give my a location, I can upload you some nice pictures.
Maybe it is nice to start a new tread about replacing the engine for a type II engine?

Regards and thanks very much again!!
