A Few Questions
Hi guys
I have an 05 GP GT. I have a few questions that I hope someone here can answer for me. In the DIC, if options there are available, does that mean that I have those options on my car? For example, it says something about tire inflation monitor. Do I have that option in there if its listed in there? Also, sometimes when i start from a dead stop there's a sound of almost a waterflowing like sound coming from the dash, almost near the windshield. It never happens when I'm stopping, only when I'm starting, and not that often, but enough to get me curious as to what it is. And finally, I don't have too much heat in my car. It's luke warm at best. The coolant level is topped off. I bought a new thermostat for it, and was wondering if that could be the problem. And if it is, is it as easy to remove as it looks? Just undo the hose from it, undo the 2 bolts, and pop it out? Thanks for your help |

Re: A Few Questions
to answer your first question yes if it is on the dic you have that option.and the waterflow sound is air in the heater core.you can try and bleed the air out of the system first.that is also why you have poor heat.

Re: A Few Questions
here is what I do.open the bleeder screw at the top of the thermostat houseing.with it open fill the radiator until coolant runs out of the bleeder screw.close the bleeder screw.run the car,put the blower on high setting and mode on vent.let the car run for awhile until the temp guage gets about 210-215,then shut the car off for 3-5 minutes.that will boil the thermostat open, open the bled screw, add coolant until coolant runs out of the bleed screw start the vehicle again and let it run to bleed and remaining air out.then top off.should be bled.I do this on every gm vehicle when I service the coolant.this works on all the gm vehicles.(3.8-3.1-3.4)it will get all the air out.here is a picture of the bleed screw.

Re: A Few Questions

Re: A Few Questions
i would put in the new t-stat, but i don't think it's the right one. It's shaped completely different, and is about 1 inch longer than the origional. Where i bought it told me that it should be ok to use it, but with this much difference, i highly doubt it will work.

Re: A Few Questions
sounds like maybe you got the wrong one. Take it back and insist that it doesnt fit.

Re: A Few Questions
took it back and had to fight like hell for my refund, but i got it. Went to another store and got the right one, but now after I installed it, and bled the lines, it was hot for about 30 minutes, now it bounces from hot to luke warm to just above cold. I know there is no air in the line, cause when i open the bleed screw, coolant comes out. There's no consistancy in it. I got the 195. Should I maybe get a different one?

Re: A Few Questions
What brand of t-stat did you buy? From your symptoms, it sounds like you still have air in the system. Sometimes they bleed easily, other times, they'll fight you tooth and nail.

Re: A Few Questions
I don't remember the name brand of the t-stat i bought. And I think all the air is out, cause when I open the valve, coolant comes out right away. On the way home from work this morning, all I had was cool air blowing out. Thank god it wasn't a cold morning.

Re: A Few Questions
The cool air is an indication that there is still air trapped in the system. Jack the right front corner of the car up so that the radiator filler neck is higher than the engine, and repeat the bleed proceedure. It's not just a matter of opening the bleeders until coolant comes out.
