I'll give you the symptoms of the problem;
then help me determine how/where to solve them, anyone. I was on my way home from work when my 1991 2.3L fuel-injected Ranger began missing and vibrating. It gradually got worse and lost incredible power on the hills and quit. I was able to restart, but was unable to run the engine more than 2500 rpm from idle (or at any stable RPM) before it sputtered out and quit. All these symptoms happened within 15 min. I did not see excessive black smoke come from the exhaust at any time. 1st, I suspect bad plug wires because it began by missing. 2ndly, fouled injector(s) to specific cylinders. 3rdly, a bad Map sensor because it was unable to handle a load or accelerate. Help, I need the truck for work duties. Thanks in advance Sir91xlt |

Re: '91 2.3L FuelInj/power problem - HELP
If I was fixing it myself I would first replace plug wires and fuel filter also would check for an exhaust blockage or clogged converter in exhaust system.
