GTO vs. Ion Redline.

Just a few hours ago Im headed home when I run into a black ion Redline with a very spirited driver. The guy is hauling ass and Im barely keeping up in the GTO. I get next to him to hear his SC whine but he takes off and I cant catch him, just too much distance to cover.
He gets next to me and matches me. again we take off from a roll and again I cant pass him. hes just pulling away like hell.
Im thinking "shit!!!! I gotta know what he has on that car, I want it on mine!"

SO fianlly after almost two miles we hit a red light and we get ready to run. Hes got the engine reving low ready to launch. I kill T/C and get ready as well.
Light goes green and he gets off with a little wheel spin. I take off nice and easy wait for the tires to be in motion and then floor into it. It works and I pull a nose on him. We shift and he makes up the nose but then falls right back to my door and all I hear is WWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE comming from the SC.
we shift into third and agian he makes up a few inches but again falls right back this time past my tail. Im preatty sure he let go early cause I pulled too fast at the end.
Finally we stop and I ask him to lower the window.
He was an older dude probably ealry 30s. He honors my request to pull over and talk cause I wanna know what hes running!
We chatted for a few minutes, I got the info I wanted and I told him I had mad respect cause he had my GTO on the rolling starts everytime. I had to bring him down to where the RWD made a difference and even then I only beat him by a few feet.
One sick ass Redline and one cool driver. Good times!

Re: GTO vs. Ion Redline.

For an Ion Redline to beat your GTO he would have to be passed GM Stage 3 I would think.

Re: GTO vs. Ion Redline.

From the title...I expected to hear that you raced your wife.

I too would like to know the details as to what he's packing in the Redline. You don't just say "I got the details", and then leave us hanging.

Spread the word. I'd imagine your car is easily low 12's. So for an Ion to keep that up, especially from a dig and roll...something pretty special.

Re: GTO vs. Ion Redline.

I'd say with the new tune on the GTO its more of a High to mid 12 and on slicks a mid to low 12. Especially since before the tune he was able to get a low 13. But that seems like a very nice race.

Re: GTO vs. Ion Redline.

Well, if he is considered to easily be in the 12's, it was definately past stage 3.

where did I say he beat me?

Everytime I matched him he would just take off. No honk down, no signal, just gunned it and took off.
Now obviously if two cars are fairly matched and one takes off without warning then the other will have a hard time making up the distance no?
Thats what happend, we never had a fair rolling start run.

Redline faster then my Goat......only you SL!

So yeah he had some nice shit done. Exhaust, K&N typhoon exhaust and a stage 2 with a 2.5 pulley booting 20 psi, and some other goodies Im not gonna get into detail over.

Oh and I run low 13s, not 12s. never 12s. so he was probably running between 13.5 and 13.0

Re: GTO vs. Ion Redline.

cool race, 2.5 pulley and his mods he should be trapping around 110-113MPH in the quarter mile. Im sure you know Delta LSJs are nearly impossible to launch, way to much power in first. That guy must have been a pretty good driver and known his car well because its not easy to drive a 2.5 pulley, you literally spin 1st, 2nd, and half of 3rd if you floor it.

On the topic of launching...wheelhop is a bitch if you don't have LSD on these cars. Trust me I know first hand what it can do...let me just say thank god for warranty

no an LSD doesnt do anything to help with wheel hop, if you want to end wheel hop you need poly trans mounts.
