Trouble Code 0449

I have a 2003 Silverado that is showing trouble code 0449. I believe I'll need to replace the vent solenoid but do not know where it is. Can someone please tell me where to find it?

Re: Trouble Code 0449

it depends on if you have a cab/chassis or just a pick up.makes a difference in location.on cab/chassis it's located on the side of the gas tank,on a pickup it's located on the top of the gas tank, you can see it inbetween the bed and the cab where they meet.besides why do you think you need a vent solenoid are you just guessing?

Re: Trouble Code 0449

I have a pick up and I was afraid that was where is was located. I see the solenoid that you are talking about between the bed and the cab, but I also see something similar looking on top of the gas tank that is more in line with the filler neck. Can you tell me what that is as well? I'm just curious. They both look very difficult to get at. As far as why I think I need to change it....well, the 0449 code says "vent/solenoid malfunction" so I figured that it needs changed. As you can probably tell, I'm not a mechanic but have done simple things like replace O2 sensors, plugs, wires, washer fluid motor. I figure if I can find out where the vent solenoid is, I can probably change that too. If you have any other suggestions, please share. I'd like to explore other options because changing that solenoid does not look easy to me.

Re: Trouble Code 0449

brian 1 - I should add that when I was looking down between the bed and the cab, I noticed a build up of snow and ice on top of the wiring and solenoid. I tried to brush it off, but couldn't get all of it. I live in Ohio and it's pretty cold here right now. It's supposed to warm up over the weekend and that stuff should melt off.

Re: Trouble Code 0449

have had that problem P0449 replaced vent valve. gm has a bulletin on it with an updated vent valve it comes with new style vent and hose assembly, it gets plugged up and does not work right. the new kit comes with directions. it relocates vent hose. mine is between cab and box,was not all that bad to change. it cured DTC P0449
