Oil leak advice

Just had a ton of work done on the Jeep from a good mechanic and brought it home two nights ago. I got back from work just now in a borrowed car and noticed oil under the Jeep. It's hard to see in the dark but with a flashlight it looks like there are three leaks. One near the front, one under a large pan and one under the muffler?? These aren't drops, they're small puddles. The pan thing is covered in oil and lots of other "things" running down the middle of the under-body also seems to have oil all over them...

They were supposed to change the oil while they were doing the work... (emergency brake work, serpentine belt, battery and CV boot. The muffler and tailpipe still need to be replaced, they're rusted almost out.)

I'm trying not to freak out, but we just put a bunch of money into this (1996 GC, 206,000) and I'm not sure what to do now. Advice please please?? Could an oil change mess something up? Why are there so many leaks?

Re: Oil leak advice

1st thought since you had an oil change they may have not put the oil filter on tightly/correctly or it might be a defective oil filter. That would give you oil running down the engine and dropping off in several locations. Check Oil level and look for oil around the filter and call the mechanic who did the repair and let him know there's a problem.
Just a thought.

Re: Oil leak advice

Okay-thank you, I'll bring it back in tomorrow. And I'll try to be optimistic that it's just something they screwed up.

Re: Oil leak advice

I have a '94 GC and had oil leaks from similar places (engine, muffler, starter, oil filter, oil pan, and transmission pan). The problem was the gasket on the oil filter adapter (the piece that the filter screws onto). This was leaking at the gasket where it attaches to the engine and caused leaks to run down throughout other engine components, even though the leak originated from one location. I've had no oil leaks since this was replaced. It's about a $4 gasket, but I paid the shop to replace it while I had the Jeep in for other work. From other postings it's a pretty easy fix although it cost me $55 for the shop to do it. It looks like they replaced the whold adapter but they might have just replaced the gasket and cleaned the old adapter really well.

Re: Oil leak advice

JeepForever-close! Apparently, there are a few different seals and valves and whatnot that are just so old that they aren't doing optimal work. They put in a bit too much oil and thinner than what we normally put in and between those two things it was leaking out. It's not a big deal now, but will probably have to fix all of that after a while.

Thanks! I'll be back next time something commits Jeep-suicide

automatic transmission oil leak

Hello,

Would like to seek your advice regarding my transmission oil leak problem.

I have my 1998 Grand Cherooke limited automatic transmission oil leak problem. I have brought the jeep in the mechanic to fix it last wednesday and then on friday morning the leak resume again. I already replace the oil gasket with the new one and still there is leak.

Can anybody help me to permanent fix this problem? Im shedding money to buy automatic transmission oil to fill up the lost leaking oil?
