97 grand prix power window problem

Have a 97 4 door grand prix 3.8 with power windows. Was talking to a friend the other day with my window half down and when I tried to get it to go up it would not go. A friend said roll all the way down then try so I did but didn't work. I live in wisconsin and now have a 4 door car with the drivers side window stuck down. All 3 of the other windows work even checked the fuse not the fuse. I notice when you push the buttons down on the switch's on the drivers door they kind of make a clicking sound when pushed up or down however the drivers button only makes that noise when pushing down but nothing when pushing up. just wondering if anyone has had this problem before and what they did I am looking at ordering a whole new switch replacement but cost like $75 so want to make sure first. I have the door apart don't see any wiring problems and don't think its the motor seeing how all the other windows work off the switchs on the door and it worked when I pushed the button to go down. Any help would be great.
thanks

Re: 97 grand prix power window problem

well, with the door apart, test for voltage at the motor as you work the switch. If you have voltage then you need to look into a bad motor and or window binding.

you said that it would roll down? Sometimes I've had switches fail and let the window roll down but not up or vice versa, and as a temporary fix would just switch the electrical connections at the motor and roll it up. Not sure if this can be done with the new GP's.

Re: 97 grand prix power window problem

thought of switching but they are wire harness and the connectors are different for each set. AS for the motor no voltage test but dont think its the motor since the other 3 switchs work off that motor and they all work as did the drivers one to go down anyways. I know each door has its own motor but the drivers side one as switchs for all 4 windows so if 3 work don't think it can be motor but might be wrong.

Re: 97 grand prix power window problem

My driver's side went out about 2 years ago and did about the same thing. A new switch fixed it. The dealer gave me a discount and I got it for about $60. Doesn't hurt to ask.
